Brother supports Mandela Day Sewathon with
'Colourful Threads' Dealer in Port Elizabeth

Tshwane, 16 October 2019 – The Colourful Threads Mandela Day Sewathon, in aid of the Zanethemba Charity, took place from 16 - 20 July 2019 at the Greenacres Shopping Centre in Port Elizabeth. But the initiative was so popular that the sewing has continued right through until October!

The ‘Colourful Threads’ Mandela Day Sewathon invited members of the public to join in and sew for 67 minutes (or more!) for charity. The team from Colourful Threads prepared the sewing kits of patterns and cut out material to be used during the weekend sewing event. Participants could choose from teddies, dolls, reading pillows, laundry bags, quilts and blankets to sew up. The finished articles were then donated to the Zanethemba Children’s Home.

Sewing kits were also sold to add to the fundraising effort as well as a Quilt raffle which raised a further R1800 from ticket sales.

All the projects were made using Brother sewing and embroidery machines plus the CV3550 overlocker. This year the new ScanNCut SDX1200 was available to use during the weekend, adding a new dimension to the crafting elements.

The event was so popular this year that people continued to sew items privately after Mandela Day and we were able to hand over 30 Teddies, 31 Dolls, 49 Reading Pillows, 40 Laundry Bags, 4 Quilts and 4 Blankets at the beginning of October. Ten gift bags full of wonderful goodies were also donated by a private sponsor.

Events of this nature are only successful due to the contributions of time, effort and goods from all the people and companies involved. We extend a big thank you to all involved in the ‘Colourful Threads’ Sewathon and are certain that the teddies, dolls and other items made will provide joy and warmth in the weeks to come.
